Running a Fair Online MCQ Test Without Google Forms

By Prakash Panthi, Founder · Published September 22, 2026

Google Forms can absolutely grade a multiple-choice quiz. Plenty of coaching centres and small training programs use it that way. It's just not built for the specific things an actual exam needs — a time limit that's enforced rather than suggested, and confidence that one candidate can't quietly submit the test twice under two different attempts.

A form with no time limit isn't really a timed test

Setting an expectation that a quiz should take 30 minutes isn't the same as actually cutting it off at 30 minutes. Without real enforcement, "timed" is really just a suggestion candidates can ignore, which makes results harder to compare fairly across everyone who took it.

One attempt per person needs to mean one attempt per person

A generic form doesn't know who's submitting it — it just records answers. Nothing stops the same person filling it out twice from two browser tabs, whether that's accidental or deliberate, and once there are two submissions from the same candidate, someone has to manually decide which one counts.

What our Online Exam / MCQ Test System handles instead

Our Online Exam / MCQ Test System lets you build exams with a real time limit and a pass mark, published when ready or kept as a draft while the question bank is still being built. Candidates take the test through a public link with no account required, and grading happens automatically the moment they submit — pass or fail, visible immediately.

Each email address gets exactly one attempt, with the ability to resume if the browser tab gets closed partway through rather than losing the attempt entirely and being tempted to start a second one. The results page shows the average score and pass rate across everyone who's taken it, useful for judging whether a test was fair or came out too hard.

It's a straightforward MCQ engine, not a proctored exam platform — no webcam or tab-switch monitoring, no question randomization, no negative marking, no image or code questions, and no candidate accounts to manage separately. For a coaching centre, training program or internal assessment that mainly needs real timing and one honest attempt per person, that's the right amount of tool without the overhead of a full proctoring suite.

FAQ

Is the time limit actually enforced, or just a suggestion?

It's enforced — the test is timed for real, not just labeled with a suggested duration.

Can the same person submit the test more than once?

No — one attempt per email address is enforced. If the browser closes partway through, the candidate resumes the same attempt rather than starting a new one.

Does this include webcam or anti-cheating monitoring?

No — it's an MCQ test engine, not a proctoring platform. There's no webcam monitoring, tab-switch detection, or question randomization.
