Never oversells
Checkout locks the products in the cart, checks stock and deducts it in one transaction. In our tests, ten shoppers racing for the last three units produced exactly three sold and stock of zero, and eight carts with the same products in opposite order all completed without a deadlock.
The browser cannot set the price
Prices, names and totals are read from the database when the cart is shown and when the order is placed. Changing a product's price later updates carts but never a placed order, which keeps the price the customer paid.
Cancelling is safe
Cancelling a new or paid order returns its stock, and only once, even if the button is clicked repeatedly or by two staff at the same moment. Shipped and delivered orders cannot be cancelled.
Sensible storefront behaviour
Hidden products disappear from the shop and cannot be added to a cart; a product hidden after it was added blocks checkout with a clear message; the confirmation page is shown only to the person who just ordered.
