Blood Bank Manager — Overview

A ready-to-deploy PHP and MySQL record system for a blood bank. Register donors, record each donation (the system checks the donor is eligible), track the resulting units by blood group with their expiry date, and issue or discard them. The dashboard shows usable stock per group so shortages are obvious.

IMPORTANT: this is a record-keeping and stock tool. It does NOT replace laboratory testing, screening, cross-matching, compatibility checks or your local regulatory and licensing requirements, and it does not decide medical suitability beyond the simple age and interval rules you configure. It issues units by exact blood group record only, has no component separation (plasma, platelets), no test-result tracking and no requests or reservations.

Rules you can see and change

Age limits, days between donations and unit shelf life are named settings at the top of config.php (defaults 18-65, 90 days, 42 days). Adjust them to your local guidelines.

A unit can only go out once, and never after it expires

Issuing is a single guarded update: a unit that was already issued, discarded or has passed its expiry date is refused, even if two staff click at the same moment. In our tests, eight hospitals requesting one unit at once resulted in exactly one issue.

Expiry counts from collection

A unit collected ten days ago expires 32 days from today, not 42. Units expiring within a week are flagged, and expired units are listed separately so they get discarded.

Donor safety and record integrity

One donor cannot be recorded twice at the same moment, the donor list warns who is not yet eligible, and a donor's blood group is locked once units exist so records cannot be silently rewritten.

Technical Requirements

PHP 7.4+ (tested on PHP 8.5), MySQL 5.7+ or MariaDB 10+ (tested on MySQL 8.0), and the mysqli extension. Plain PHP, no framework dependency. Every form is CSRF-protected and all database access uses prepared statements.
