Coding Games for Kids: Free Puzzles to Learn to Code

Eight free coding games children play right in the browser — steer a robot, spot the bug, finish the pattern, sort the boxes — each one teaching a real idea behind every programming language. No account, nothing to install.

Free · no account · nothing saved

The ideas behind coding — putting steps in order, loops, patterns, if-then decisions and finding bugs — are best learned by playing, not reading. This free set of eight coding games lets a child aged about 6 to 11 do exactly that: tap arrows to drive a robot through a maze, repeat a step with a loop, finish a pattern, sort things into boxes, choose the right if-then action, and hunt down the odd step. Every game teaches one real programming idea, and there is a one-line tip for the grown-up.

Nothing is installed and no child signs up: the games run in the browser and store nothing. It is completely free — a taster of how our paid courses teach — and it works on a phone, tablet or computer. When your child is ready for more, the courses for each age carry on from here.

What you'll be able to do

  • Steer a robot to a goal with arrow steps, and fix the path when it goes wrong
  • Use a loop to repeat a step instead of tapping it many times
  • Finish a pattern by predicting what comes next
  • Sort things into groups by a rule
  • Choose the right action for an if-then rule
  • Find the step that does not belong — the idea of debugging

Before you start

  • A phone, tablet or computer with a browser — nothing to install
  • A grown-up nearby for the youngest players
  • No reading needed beyond a short prompt a grown-up can read aloud

Curriculum

Every activitie is open — no purchase, no account. Tap one to start.

  1. 1 Treasure Hunt Give the robot arrow steps to reach the treasure. This is your first program — a list of steps a computer follows exactly. 3 min
  2. 2 Loop Power Instead of tapping the same arrow over and over, use a loop to repeat it. Loops are one of the most useful ideas in coding. 3 min
  3. 3 Finish the Pattern Spot the pattern and predict what comes next. Finding and continuing patterns is at the heart of what computers do. 3 min
  4. 4 The Sorting Game Put each thing in the right box. Sorting things into groups by a rule is how computers organise information. 3 min
  5. 5 The If-Then Game IF something is true, THEN do this. Making decisions with if-then is how programs choose what to do. 3 min
  6. 6 Spot the Bug One step is in the wrong place. Finding the mistake is called debugging — a coder's most important skill. 3 min
  7. 7 Put it in Order Drag the steps into the right order. A program is steps in the correct order — get them wrong and it does not work. 3 min
  8. 8 Free Drive No goal this time — make any path you like and watch the robot follow it exactly. This is your own program. 3 min

How it works

  1. 1 · Open it

No purchase and no account. Tap the first activitie on this page — it works on a phone or tablet.

  2. 2 · Do it together

One activitie per screen. The grown-up reads the prompt (or taps the speaker), the child taps. Stop whenever you like.

  3. 3 · Come back any time

Nothing to save. If you (the adult) want to tick activities done, log in with your email — the child never has an account.
